At one point a German WWI pilot named Hans von Krishner credited with three kills was allowed to fly this plane. Krishner had become a US citizen and joined the Air Force. Donald Jones flew Co-pilot. The aircraft undershot runway on landing and crashed.
SN 44-27314. Aircraft had squadron emblem painted on nose. Flew combat out of Tinian and Kadena.
Aircraft landed in eye of typhoon once. It later burned on ground on hardstand at Kadena. The plane was gone in 30 minutes.
